Covering 2020–2025, the record is too short for a reliable long-term trend, so none is shown. In 2025: 23.7 °C average, 10 days at or above 40 °C.

Average temperature, 2020–2025

Annual average of ERA5 daily mean temperature, area-weighted.

Days with daily maximum ≥ 40 °C

Grid-cell reanalysis days, area-weighted. This is not a count of IMD-declared heatwave days.

Monthly heat calendar

Monthly average of ERA5 daily mean temperature (°C). Darker cells are warmer months. Hover or tap a cell for its value.

ERA5 is a reanalysis, a model-based estimate rather than a station record. Days at or above 40 °C are grid-cell days, not IMD-declared heatwave days.

Data and methodology

Temperature. ERA5 reanalysis (a model-based estimate that assimilates observations, not a station record) from the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) / ECMWF, CC-BY 4.0, on a 0.25° grid of about 28 km.

Area weighting. Each grid cell is intersected with the state boundary and cells are averaged by overlapping area. Values are smoother than local weather and are not station readings.

Boundaries. geoBoundaries gbOpen IND ADM1 (DataMeet / Election Commission of India) (2011, CC BY 2.5 IN). These are not official Survey of India boundaries and carry no legal status.

Baseline. 1991–2020 is used for anomalies where the full baseline has been processed; otherwise anomalies are not shown.

Updates. Release 2026-10-31-f8bb6a6, generated 2026-10-31, data through 2025-12-31.

Limitations. Days at or above 40 °C count reanalysis grid-cell days and are not IMD-declared heatwave days. A short record cannot support a reliable long-term trend.
